Use Hotkeys with remote desktop as the active window

Is there any way to use hotkeys while the active window is a remote desktop session? I think the remote desktop session is grabbing the keypresses before MMM can see them.

Any specific combination of hotkey keys that will allow me to play the macro while the active window is remote desktop?

I couldn't find one with an actual solution unfortunately. As this macro is only temporary really I've just ended the macro by clicking the title bar of MMM and have always on top checked. As long as I position MMM in the same place it works. Not ideal but good enough I suppose.
