when debugging and viewing the variable window, an assignment of John.male to %STRING% resulted in:
%STRING% John.male (in the left window where you type)
but in the right window:
John .male (note 2 lines)
When running the cursor over John.male in the left window, it takes 2 right arrows to move the cursor pass the period (.)!!! Maybe some hidden character there?? Any ideas? tks!

I'm trying to replicate your issue John but I havent been able to. How did you get that value into %string%? Did you use 'input from file'?

this is how:
10 | RUN ACTION | | | | DEFINE STRING VARIABLE | %STRING%::%clipboard%
Though I have to say duplicating the problem is not easy... It is intermittent. Sigh.

The problem is that your clipboard value has a carriage return and a line feed (a ENTER with a new line). When you assign this to the variable %string% you are assigning this carriage return/new line to the variable also.

I kind of suspected that too! And yes, u r right! I tried to copy carefully without copying the linefeed/return "end space" from wordpad and it seemed to work better as expected! Tks so much Steve! U r brilliant! Anyway to deal with that in MMM? Anyway to ignore that LR or CR character? Tks!

BTW, with the LR or CR in mind, the funny thing is that keypress CTRL-V will work but not keypress %STRING%, for typing out a URL address!

There is not real way to ignore it other than finding a different way to get variable data into STRING. Maybe making use of INPUT FROM FILE from the 6.7.X beta.
